Concept for Cockie and Sunflower - Major Mitchell:
Darren love’s edible gardening & birds; parrots in particular. He grows a backyard of edibles that a range of birds visit and enjoys sitting and watching them, even if they do destroy and steal his hard worked for crops; usually it's the parrots, most often the cockies! As Darren states “We had these giant sunflowers growing up the back, towering over most things, that I looked out to admire one day. The next day, and for days after there were less and less sunflowers; then I caught the little buggers stripping our sunflower heads of the many ripening seeds. The contrast and complement of colours with feathers and petals everywhere was my inspiration for this piece”.
About the Artist:
As a self-taught digital artist Darren Blanch mostly works in the 3D world, with some recent exploration into digital painting, where anything in his imagination can be created. He has illustrated stories for zines Yellow Mama and Black Petals in the US and is currently a committee member for the Wellington Art Centre in NSW. His vision is to bring art to the world in any medium, for it’s raw beauty and to instigate conversation and emotion.
